Leadership
Session Leader: Joan Kanigan

-think of leaders who have motivated you? What are their qualities?
            -open to new ideas
            -passionate
            -never get flustered
            -wealth of knowledge (they’re willing to share!)
            -approachable
            -confident in their employees
-managers should do their job well enough so that they can be taken out of the equation
-distinction between manager and leader
-Management is doing things right
-Leadership is doing the right things
-managers need to be organized, be able to delegate, have job-specific skills
-leaders need to focus on relationship building, trust, communication; they need to know where they’re going and what it takes to get there, and if the goal is the right goal for the group/institution
-communicate shared goals to get all disparate groups/people on board
-Stephen Covey “7 Habits of Highly Effactive People” has personal mission statements you can read and be inspired by
-SMART acronym
